Why does Ionclad describe their work as European metalwork?

We call the techniques we employ European metalwork because we specialise in traditional Spengler techniques, a craft that originated in Europe and has been passed down for centuries. Spenglers (also known as tinsmiths or metal craftsmen) are trained in precision sheet metal work using techniques like standing seams, soldering, and custom flashings to create durable, weather-tight roofs and façades.

At Ionclad, we bring these European roofing traditions to modern Australian architecture, combining heritage craftsmanship with contemporary design. We’re proud to carry on this specialised skill set, offering cladding and roofing solutions that create architectural statements with distinction.

Who does Ionclad work with?

At Ionclad, we collaborate with builders, architects, and homeowners to deliver bespoke architectural metalwork. Whether you’re in the early design stages or ready to install, we’re here to help. If you’re an architect looking for design assistance with custom metal cladding systems, a builder needing detailed roofing solutions, or a homeowner wanting to create something unique — get in touch.

What cladding systems does Ionclad offer?

Our bespoke systems are available in metals like zinc, copper, aluminium, and steel. If you’re unsure what environmental or design factors to consider when selecting a metal for your build, reach out to us.

What areas of metal roofing and cladding does Ionclad specialise in?

At Ionclad, we specialise in bespoke architectural metal roofing and cladding for high-end luxury residential and heritage projects. We pride ourselves on delivering:

  • Custom standing seam roofing for both low-pitch and complex roof designs

  • Detailed architectural façades using standing seam, flat lock, interlocking, and cassette panels

  • Custom metal flashings and cappings for precision detailing

  • Heritage-style metal shingles and modern curved flashings

  • Weather-tight, high-performance cladding systems for Queensland’s coastal and tropical climates

Does Ionclad work on heritage or restoration projects?

Yes, we have experience in heritage roofing and cladding restoration, particularly using zinc, copper, aluminium and steel. Our traditional European metalwork techniques make us well-suited to replicate or restore standing seam roofs, metal shingles, and custom flashings on churches, heritage-listed buildings, and architecturally significant homes across Queensland and Northern NSW.

What metals does Ionclad work with?

At Ionclad, we work with a wide range of premium architectural metals to deliver bespoke cladding and roofing solutions that are both durable and visually striking. We carefully select metals from trusted international and Australian suppliers to ensure the highest quality finish for every project.

We specialise in working with:

  • Zinc cladding
Including leading brands like elZinc® and VMZinc®, known for their versatility, natural patina development, and excellent weathering properties. Zinc is a popular choice for contemporary architecture and heritage-inspired designs.

  • Aluminium cladding
We use Prefa aluminium, a lightweight, corrosion-resistant metal that offers an extensive colour range and is perfect for modern façades, roofs, and bespoke metalwork.

  • Copper cladding
We work with premium copper suppliers including KME TECU® Copper and Aurubis Nordic Copper®. Copper is renowned for its long lifespan, striking natural weathering, and timeless architectural appeal.

  • Steel cladding
Including COLORBOND® steel, a highly durable, Australian-made product available in a wide variety of colours and finishes. Steel is a cost-effective option that performs exceptionally well in harsh Australian climates.

Our team is experienced in crafting custom solutions using each of these metals, from standing seam roofing and façades to flat lock panels, interlocking panels, and custom flashings.

If you’re unsure which metal will suit your project, we can walk you through the options, provide metal samples, and help you choose the best solution for your location, aesthetic, and budget.
